What is Urban Forestry?
Most people think that forests are many acres of woodlands in rural areas. However, our urban forest is the collection of trees in an individual’s yard, lining village streets, and in our parks. Urban forests are a valuable asset to the community. In fact, a healthy, well maintained urban forest can boost property values, reduce stormwater run-off and erosion, clean our air, contribute to a sense of community pride, and provide a legacy for future generations. Visit the International Society of Arboriculture website to learn more about the benefits of trees.
The purpose of Kronenwetter’s Urban Forestry Program is to promote a safe, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing environment for both the residents and visitors of our community. Tree health has become a major concern within municipalities across the country due to increasing disease outbreaks. The startup of an Urban Forestry Program in Kronenwetter coincided with the discovery of several infestations of oak wilt throughout the community. While the initial focus of this program is to control oak wilt, we will attempt to combat other tree health concerns as well.
