Board of Appeals (BOA)

Under state statutes, a Board of Appeals must be formed when a local legislature adopts its zoning law. The composition of the Board of Appeals consists of five regular members and two alternate members. The essential function of the Board of Appeals is to review variances. In this capacity the Board protects landowners from the unfair application of the laws in particular circumstances. The  Board of Appeals also hears appeals from the decisions of the zoning enforcement officer or building inspector when interpretations of the zoning ordinance are involved.
