Kronenwetter sewer rates to increase starting in January 2024

On January 8, 2024, at the regular meeting of the Kronenwetter Village Board, the board passed a sewer rate increase.

The new rate will take effect January 1, 2024. The increase on the sewer consumption charge is going from $3.66 per one thousand gallons of metered water to $6.48 per one thousand gallons of metered water. The base fee also increased from $23.60 to $41.77 per quarter.

This means the average customer, using 12,000 gallons, will see an increase of approximately $50 per quarter on their utility bill.

The increase will allow the Kronenwetter Sewer Utility to cover operating expenses and a portion of the upcoming capital improvement projects.

“The Kronenwetter Sewer Utility has been running at a deficit since 2018,” said Village of Kronenwetter Trustee and Utility Committee Chairman Alex Vedvik. “The increase will allow us to bring the utility into the black and keep it there, while also helping to fund much needed projects, including updating our lift stations.”

The increase will cover operating costs, planning for the future and bearing the expense of the recent 53% cost increase of sewer services from Rib Mountain Metropolitan Sewerage District (RMMSD). All of the Village’s wastewater is pumped to and treated by RMMSD. RMMSD is facing a $23 million upgrade to their facility resulting in a cost increase to all the area municipalities utilizing their services.

Kronenwetter residents will begin seeing the increase on their January 2024 utility bills.
